The main postal code of Lahore is 54000. It belongs to the Lahore General Post Office (GPO) on Mall Road. But Lahore is one of the largest cities in Pakistan, and its mail is handled by dozens of different post offices — so the right code for your address depends on which post office delivers to your area. DHA uses 54792, Johar Town uses 54782, Gulberg uses 54660 and Lahore Cantt uses 54810.
This guide lists the postal codes of all 50 delivery post offices in Lahore, taken directly from the official Pakistan Post post code directory. You will also learn how the codes work, how to find the right one for your street, how to write a Lahore address properly, and the mistakes that most often delay letters and parcels.

What if my area is not in the list?
This is the most common question about Lahore postal codes, and the answer is simple: not every neighbourhood has its own post office. Lahore has hundreds of colonies, blocks and housing schemes, but only 50 delivery post offices. Each of those offices covers several surrounding neighbourhoods.
So if you live in an area that does not appear in the table — for example a newer housing society — your mail is delivered by the nearest delivery post office, and you should use that office’s code. Two neighbouring areas can have different codes, so it is better to confirm than to guess. The steps in the next section show you how.
How to find the right postal code for your address
- Check your existing mail. An old letter, courier slip or utility bill sent to your address often shows the postal code or the name of the delivery post office.
- Identify your delivery post office. Ask a neighbour, your building management or the postman which post office delivers mail to your street.
- Match it in the table above. Use that office’s code, not simply the main 54000 code.
- Verify online. The official Pakistan Post post code directory can be searched by post office name and is the most reliable source.
- Ask at the counter. If you are still unsure, staff at any Lahore post office can confirm the correct code for your address.
How Lahore postal codes work
Pakistan Post introduced postal codes on 1 January 1988 to speed up sorting and reduce mis-sent mail. Every code in Pakistan has five digits, and each part has a job:
- The first two digits identify the district or sorting region. They get your letter to the right city. This is why almost every Lahore code begins with 54, while places on the edges of the district begin with 53 or 55.
- The last three digits identify the specific delivery post office that will hand the letter or parcel to the receiver.
Large cities have more than one general post office. In Lahore, the main one is simply called “Lahore GPO” and uses 54000, while the cantonment has its own Lahore Cantt GPO with the code 54810. Smaller post offices in each part of the city then have their own codes within the same range.
Other cities have their own ranges. Karachi codes begin with 74 or 75, for example — you can compare them in our Karachi postal code list. The capital uses 44 and 45, as shown in our Islamabad postal code list. Elsewhere in Punjab, the Multan postal code list covers codes starting with 59 and 60, the Faisalabad postal code list covers 37 and 38, and the Rawalpindi postal code list covers 46 and 47.
| Code range | Where it is used |
|---|---|
| 54000 – 54120 | Lahore GPO and the central / old city post offices |
| 54500 – 54990 | Most residential and commercial areas of the city |
| 53100 – 53800 | Areas on the southern, south-western and eastern edges of Lahore |
| 55150 – 55270 | Raiwind, Manga Mandi and nearby outskirts |
How to write a Lahore address correctly
A clear, complete address matters just as much as the code itself. Write each part on its own line, from the most specific detail to the most general:
Receiver's full name House no. 25, Street 4, Block C Johar Town Lahore 54782 Phone: 03XX-XXXXXXX
For mail coming from another country, add the country name in capital letters on the last line:
Receiver's full name House no. 25, Street 4, Block C Johar Town Lahore 54782 PAKISTAN
- Put the postal code right after the city name, on the same line.
- Include a mobile number. Couriers usually call before delivery.
- Add a well-known landmark if your street is new or hard to find.
- Write the sender’s address too, so the item can be returned if it cannot be delivered.
Tips for faster delivery to a Lahore address
The postal code gets your mail to the right post office. The rest of the address gets it to the right door. These habits make a real difference, especially in Lahore’s large housing schemes:
- Always include the phase, block or sector. Schemes such as DHA, Bahria Town, Johar Town and Township are divided into many phases, blocks and sectors, and house numbers repeat in each one. “House 25, Block C, Johar Town” is far easier to deliver than “House 25, Johar Town”.
- Write the receiver’s full name. For parcels and registered items, the name should match the person who will receive and sign for it.
- For offices, add the company name and floor. Plazas and commercial buildings often have dozens of businesses at one street address.
- Avoid unclear abbreviations. Write “Street”, “Block” and “Phase” in full where you can.
- Keep your receipt or tracking number. If something is delayed, it is the quickest way for the post office or courier to trace the item.
Where you will need your Lahore postal code
- Online shopping: checkout forms on local and international stores ask for a postal or ZIP code.
- Courier and parcel bookings: the code helps route your shipment to the correct delivery office.
- Bank and account forms: banks, payment services and many apps require a postal code as part of your address.
- Official applications: education, visa and job application forms usually include a postal code field.
- International mail: postal services abroad rely on the code to sort mail before it reaches Pakistan.
Common postal code mistakes to avoid
- Using 54000 for every address. It will usually still reach Lahore, but your area’s own code helps it get sorted faster.
- Guessing from a nearby area. Neighbouring areas can be served by different post offices.
- Typing only four digits. Every postal code in Pakistan has exactly five digits.
- Confusing the dialling code with the postal code. Lahore’s telephone area code is 042, which has nothing to do with its postal codes.
- Leaving the field empty. Many online forms will reject the address, and deliveries can be delayed.
About the Lahore General Post Office
The Lahore GPO is at GPO Chowk on Mall Road, close to Anarkali Bazaar. The building was completed in 1887 to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee and was designed by Sir Ganga Ram, the engineer and architect behind many of Lahore’s landmark buildings. More than a century later it is still the city’s main post office, and it is the home of the 54000 postal code.
