The main postal code of Islamabad is 44000. It belongs to the Islamabad General Post Office (GPO). Because the capital is planned in sectors, though, different parts of the city are served by different post offices, each with its own code. F-7 Markaz uses 44210, G-9 Markaz uses 44090, I-10 Markaz uses 44800 and DHA Phase II uses 45730.
This guide lists the postal codes of all 42 delivery post offices in Islamabad, taken directly from the official Pakistan Post post code directory. You will also see how the codes are organised, what to do if your sector is not listed, and how to write an Islamabad address correctly. If you are looking for another city, we also have a Lahore postal code list and a Karachi postal code list.

What if my sector is not in the list?
This is the most common question about Islamabad postal codes. The city has dozens of sectors and sub-sectors, but only 42 delivery post offices, so not every sector has a post office of its own. The official delivery directory has no separate entry for several well-known sectors — F-6, F-10, F-11, G-6, G-7, G-11 and G-13 are examples.
Mail for those sectors is delivered by a nearby delivery post office, so they use that office’s code. Do not simply copy the code of the sector next door, because the boundaries are not always what you would expect. The quickest way to be sure is to follow the steps below. If you only need a code for an online form and cannot confirm your own, the main Islamabad code 44000 is widely accepted.
How to find the right postal code for your Islamabad address
- Check mail you have already received. Utility bills, bank letters and courier slips often show the code or the delivery post office.
- Ask which post office serves your sector. Your neighbours, the local market’s post office or the postman can tell you.
- Match it in the table above and use that office’s code.
- Search the official directory. The official Pakistan Post post code directory can be searched by post office name.
- Ask at the counter. Staff at any Islamabad post office can confirm the correct code for your address.
How Islamabad postal codes work
Pakistan Post introduced postal codes on 1 January 1988 to speed up sorting and reduce mis-sent mail. Every code has five digits: the first two point to the district or sorting region, and the last three identify the delivery post office.
All Islamabad codes begin with 44 or 45. The 44 series is used in the heart of the capital — the GPO, the government offices and the main sectors — while the 45 series covers the universities, newer housing schemes and the towns and villages around the city.
| Code range | Where it is used |
|---|---|
| 44000 – 44050 | Islamabad GPO and the main government buildings |
| 44080 – 44320 | Sectors such as G-8, G-9, G-10, G-15, F-7, F-8 and E-9, plus AIOU and the Federal Board |
| 44790 – 44800 | I-8 and I-10 |
| 45200 – 45520 | Golra, Shah Allah Ditta, Noorpur Shahan, Quaid-e-Azam University, Bara Kahu, Rawal Town and nearby areas |
| 45570 – 45900 | Ali Pur Farash, Nilore, Humak, Lohi Bher, Korang Town, DHA Phase II, Rewat and the southern and eastern outskirts |
Every city has its own range, which is how sorting centres tell them apart. Lahore codes begin with 53, 54 or 55 and Karachi codes begin with 74 or 75 — you can compare them in our Lahore postal code list and Karachi postal code list. Neighbouring Rawalpindi has a separate range as well, with city codes beginning with 46, so an Islamabad code should not be used for a Rawalpindi address. You can check the twin city in our Rawalpindi postal code list. Further south in Punjab, the Faisalabad postal code list starts with 37 and 38 and the Multan postal code list with 59 and 60.
How sectors and postal codes fit together
Islamabad is laid out on a grid of sectors, each named with a letter and a number such as F-7, G-9 or I-10. A sector is then split into four sub-sectors (for example G-9/1, G-9/2, G-9/3 and G-9/4), with a commercial centre called the Markaz in the middle.
Many of the capital’s post offices take their name from that Markaz, which is why the official directory shows entries like “F-7 Markaz” and “G-9 Markaz” rather than a separate post office for every sub-sector. In practice this means one post office and its code can cover a whole sector, and sometimes neighbouring sectors too. Your sub-sector still matters for finding the house, but the postal code stays the same across it.
How to write an Islamabad address correctly
Islamabad addresses follow a clear pattern: house, street, sub-sector, then city and code. Write one item per line:
Receiver's full name House 12, Street 45 Sector G-9/3 Islamabad 44090 Phone: 03XX-XXXXXXX
For mail sent from another country, add the country in capital letters on the last line:
Receiver's full name House 12, Street 45 Sector G-9/3 Islamabad 44090 PAKISTAN
- Always write the sub-sector. Each sector is divided into four numbered parts, such as G-9/1 to G-9/4, and street numbers repeat in each one. “G-9” alone is not enough.
- Put the postal code after the city name on the same line.
- For flats and plazas, add the flat or office number and the building name.
- Include a mobile number, because couriers normally call before delivery.
Tips for faster delivery in Islamabad
- Mention the Markaz or a known landmark if your street is new or difficult to find.
- For government offices and universities, add the department and block. These are large campuses with many buildings behind one postal code.
- In gated housing schemes, give the phase, block and gate instructions so the rider is not held up at security.
- Write the sender’s address as well, so an undelivered item can be returned.
- Keep the receipt or tracking number until the item has arrived.
Common mistakes with Islamabad postal codes
- Using 44000 for every address. It usually still reaches Islamabad, but your own area’s code helps it get sorted faster.
- Using an Islamabad code for Rawalpindi. The twin cities sit side by side but have separate post offices and different codes.
- Copying the code of the next sector. Neighbouring sectors can be served by different post offices.
- Confusing the dialling code with the postal code. Islamabad’s telephone area code is 051, which has nothing to do with postal codes.
- Typing four digits instead of five. Every postal code in Pakistan has exactly five digits.
Where you will need your Islamabad postal code
- Online shopping and parcel deliveries — checkout forms ask for a postal or ZIP code.
- Bank, wallet and payment-service forms — the code is part of your registered address.
- Job, university and visa applications — these usually require a full postal address.
- International mail — postal services abroad use the code to sort items bound for Pakistan.
