Karachi does not have just one postal code. As Pakistan’s largest city, it is divided between several general post offices, and its codes run from 74000 to 75990. The two codes people use most as the “main” Karachi code are 74200 (Karachi GPO) and 74000 (Karachi City GPO). For an actual address, though, you should use the code of your own area — for example 75500 for DHA, 75600 for Clifton or 75300 for Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
This guide lists the postal codes of all 61 delivery post offices in Karachi, taken directly from the official Pakistan Post post code directory. It also explains which general post office looks after each part of the city, how to find the right code for your street, and how to write a Karachi address so your mail arrives without delay.

Karachi postal codes by general post office
Karachi’s mail is organised under seven general post offices. Each GPO is the accounting and sorting centre for a group of smaller delivery post offices. Knowing which GPO covers your side of the city makes it much easier to find the right code.

Is there one main postal code for Karachi?
Not really, and this is where Karachi differs from most other cities. Smaller cities have a single general post office whose code is treated as the city’s main code. Karachi is too large for that, so Pakistan Post runs several GPOs here, each with its own code:
- 74000 — Karachi City GPO
- 74200 — Karachi GPO
- 74400 — Karachi Saddar GPO
- 74700 — Karachi Alhydri GPO
- 74800 — New Town GPO
- 74900 — Korangi GPO
If a form only wants “the postal code of Karachi” and you do not know your area code, 74200 or 74000 is commonly accepted. For anything that will actually be delivered to you, use your own area’s code from the tables above.
What if my area is not in the list?
Karachi has hundreds of neighbourhoods, blocks and housing societies, but only 61 delivery post offices. That means most localities share a post office with their neighbours. If your area does not appear in the table, your mail is handled by the nearest delivery post office and you should use its code.
Large schemes are a good example. Gulshan-e-Iqbal has many numbered blocks, but the official directory lists a single Gulshan-e-Iqbal delivery post office with the code 75300. In the same way, Defence Housing Society is listed under 75500, with Phase VI shown separately as 75560. When in doubt, check before you send.
How to find the right postal code for your Karachi address
- Look at mail you have already received. Bank letters, bills and courier slips often show the code or the delivery post office.
- Find out which post office delivers to you. A neighbour, your building’s management office or the local postman will know.
- Use the GPO table above. Work out which side of the city you are on, then find your post office in that group.
- Search the official directory. The official Pakistan Post post code directory lets you search by post office name.
- Ask at a post office counter. Staff can confirm the correct code for any Karachi address.
How Karachi postal codes work
Postal codes were introduced across Pakistan on 1 January 1988 to make sorting faster and cut down on mis-sent mail. Each code has five digits. The first two digits point to the district or sorting region, and the last three identify the individual delivery post office.
Every Karachi code begins with 74 or 75. Codes starting with 74 belong mostly to the general post offices themselves, while the 75 series covers the delivery post offices spread across the city, from Keamari and Manora on the coast to Malir, Bahria Town and Port Qasim on the outskirts.
Each city has its own range, which is how sorting centres tell them apart. Lahore codes start with 53, 54 or 55 — see the full Lahore postal code list to compare. Islamabad codes begin with 44 or 45, and you can find them in our Islamabad postal code list. In Punjab, the Multan postal code list covers codes starting with 59 and 60, the Faisalabad postal code list covers 37 and 38, and the Rawalpindi postal code list covers 46 and 47.
| Code range | Where it is used |
|---|---|
| 74000 – 74900 | Karachi’s general post offices and Nazimabad |
| 75000 – 75230 | Steel Mills, Port Qasim, Malir, Landhi, Korangi and the airport side |
| 75260 – 75460 | Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, University, P.E.C.H.S. and surrounding areas |
| 75500 – 75660 | DHA, Cantt, Clifton, Keamari, Manora and Lyari |
| 75700 – 75990 | S.I.T.E., Orangi, Baldia, New Karachi, Liaquatabad and Federal B Area |
How to write a Karachi address correctly
Write the address from the most specific detail to the most general, one item per line:
Receiver's full name Flat 12, Building 4, Block 13-D Gulshan-e-Iqbal Karachi 75300 Phone: 03XX-XXXXXXX
For mail sent from abroad, add the country in capital letters on the last line:
Receiver's full name House 45, Street 10, Phase 5 Defence Housing Society Karachi 75500 PAKISTAN
- Always include the block, phase or sector. Karachi’s big schemes repeat house and street numbers in every block, so “Block 13-D” or “Phase 5” is essential.
- For flats, give the flat, floor and building name. Many Karachi addresses are in apartment buildings.
- Put the postal code after the city name on the same line.
- Add a mobile number and a landmark so the rider can find you quickly.
Tips for faster delivery in Karachi
- Name the nearest main road or landmark. In a city this size, “near” a well-known mosque, market, hospital or roundabout saves the rider a lot of time.
- Write the receiver’s name exactly as it appears on their ID for registered post, parcels and anything that needs a signature.
- For offices, include the company name, floor and suite number. Commercial towers can hold hundreds of businesses at one address.
- Mention the gate or security instructions if you live in a gated society or apartment complex where visitors must be registered.
- Keep the receipt and tracking number until the item is delivered, so it can be traced if there is a delay.
Common mistakes with Karachi postal codes
- Using one code for the whole city. Karachi has seven GPOs and 61 delivery post offices. A general code works on forms, but your area code is better for deliveries.
- Mixing up Karachi GPO and Karachi City GPO. They are two different offices: 74200 and 74000.
- Confusing the phone code with the postal code. Karachi’s dialling code is 021, which is unrelated to postal codes.
- Entering fewer than five digits. All postal codes in Pakistan have exactly five digits.
- Guessing from a nearby area. Neighbouring localities can fall under different post offices, and even different GPOs.
Where you will need your Karachi postal code
- Online shopping and food or parcel delivery — most checkout forms have a postal or ZIP code field.
- Bank, wallet and payment-service forms — the code is part of your registered address.
- Job, university and visa applications — these usually ask for a full postal address.
- International parcels — foreign postal services use the code to sort mail bound for Pakistan.

How we checked this information
Every postal code in this article was taken from Pakistan Post’s official Post Code Directory of Delivery Post Offices and checked in October 2026.
